What we can do for you
Behaviour is a symptom, not the problem itself.
An approach to managing confronting and difficult behaviour:
Children and teenagers live in a world where they are constantly negotiating relationships, managing disappointments, and adapting to scenarios that they couldn’t predict or plan for.
This session equips teachers, parents and students with the understanding of the biological reaction of our brains to unpleasant, triggering events and takes the emotion out of the often unpleasant responses to these triggers. Once all stakeholders understand what’s happening in the brains of our students everyone is better equipped to fully understand and therefore manage difficult behaviors both in the classroom and at home.
Walk away from these sessions understanding that behavior is a symptom of something larger. Fill your toolbox with strategies to address the cause and not the symptom. Practical skills will be shared that parents, teachers and students can put into practice with immediate effect.
This course is offered in three parts:
Coaching and Mentoring
Building internal capacity to drive teacher performance
Teaching is an intense, demanding and often draining profession. The responsibility is immense and the impact potentially life changing. Teaching professionals can often feel isolated and alone in what can be a closed-door profession. Research has shown that collaboration and interaction amongst teachers drives better performance. External presenters can be inspiring, but often the impact falls away soon after the presenter leaves the school campus. In a school where staff have the internal capacity to coach and mentor their peers, the drive, ambition and collaboration can be stimulated and nurtured from inside the school.
Train your staff to be professional coaches that can facilitate conversations to offer direction, clarity and drive in task-oriented goals. A coaching conversation can be used to problem solve, generate ideas, plan and implement new ideas. An effective coach can be a lifeline for a teacher in constantly propelling them forward as professionals. Both new and experienced teachers benefit from a healthy coaching relationship.
We offer workshops to generate capacity for coaching in your school by training your teachers as professional coaches. We will collaborate with you to help select the staff best suited to these roles. We help show the benefits of coaching and inspire your staff to get involved. The final step is to implement systems within your school whereby coaching becomes a culture. When we leave, you will have the capacity to keep going without us.
Forever in detentions
Why some kids are eternally on the detention list and how to get them off!
Education has long advocated for differentiation for academic needs in the classroom. This is certainly a critical need to helping students with various academic abilities to experience success. What about when children lack behavioral skills that need behavioral differentiation? How do we scaffold behavior, differentiate for behavior and teach new skills without being a ‘push over’?
Stimulating lessons, relevant and engaging learning materials and healthy teacher-student relationships will be enough to keep 90% of students happy, regulated and productive at school. What about the other 10% of students? Is there no place in school for them? Will they attend detention on a Wednesday afternoon eternally? Will school refusal be a constant in their lives? Most will simply tread water until they can escape the confines of the schooling system. Your school can be different. Allow us to help you to help these students in your school. We offer initial school consultation with Senior Management, teacher training followed by consultation with individual students and their parents where relevant. Let us help you make school a positive, learning and growing experience for 100% of your students.
